Yesterday’s Medicine – Cinnamon

These wonderful, medicine-inspired candies are made exclusively for True Treats in an authentic 1920s pill capsule mold. The flavor is distinctly cinnamon but not so strong it overwhelms. Each candy is sanded – meaning it is lightly covered with sugar to keep from sticking. Easy to carry around and simple to store.

Why medicine-inspired hard candy? Because hard candies started as medicines, made in apothecaries in various iterations for centuries. Hard candies straddled the line between candy and medicine starting in the 1800sand still do today (think cough drops). As a candy, cinnamon has starred in red hot Fireballs and such milder iterations as cinnamon covered almonds. As a medicine, cinnamons virtues were proclaimed in 1896 as: No living germ of disease can resist the antiseptic power of cinnamon for more than a few hours Today, health care practitioners tell us cinnamon is rich in antioxidants and useful to cardiovascular health.

We at True Treats honor the medicinal history of hard candies. We also honor todays versions not medicines but definitely delights.
