To fight colds in the 1700s, Colonists turned to a mixture ofhorehound, honey, and thyme brewed together in a cough and cold remedy tea. The flavor brings together three common medicinals: Horehound, a bitter, earthy, and slightly minty flavor, some say is related to root beer and licorice; Honey is sweet, of course; and Thyme which has a warm, slightly peppery, taste.
To prepare this unusual tea, add two teaspoons Colonial Cough & Cold Remedy Tea to a cup of hot water. Allow to steep for 3 minutes or longer, depending on your taste. When the tea is ready, add lemon, extra honey or amber beet sugar, or a dash of milk or cream.
