Sour Lime Drops

Originally medicines, drops became candy in the mid-1800s. The flavors were tart and sweet, but always delicious. The lime, a special favorite, arrived in the Caribbean with Columbus in 1493 and were growing in Florida less than 100 years later. Their popularity grew with the Gold Rush, new railroad lines, and the advent of refrigeration.
